The newest addition to the Sub Pop roster, Washed Out, has released his newest single “Eyes Be Closed” off his upcoming, first proper album, Within and Without. Its been a while since we have heard from Ernest Greene. His string of EPs last year, which included the incredible Life of Leisure, helped to jumpstart the chillwave genre that took over many indie summer playlists, along with the likes of Neon Indian, Small Black, and Toro y Moi.
“Eyes Be Closed,” though enjoyable, is not breaking any new ground, it contains Greene’s same airy, drawn out vocals and wispy keyboard washes, but it is a great introduction for new fans. It is also exciting for those of us who are already fans to know that he has not lost that bedroom recorded feeling that was a big part of what made his music so endearing.
