Beck is one of the few artists that are able to genre hop so often without seeing any decline in muscianship. You want 70’s electro-funk then you can listen to Midnite Vultures. How about tropicalia? Then check out Mutations. If you are into sample heavy, white boy indie rap then there is always the classic Odelay. Beck has music for all occasions and moods.
Currently, it is Monday morning on an overcast, gloomy day in here in Omaha so the soundtrack to my morning is appropriate: Beck’s 2002 offering Sea Change. This album was made during his folkie, troubadour phase and its all lightly strummed guitars and almost whispered vocals. Perfect for this kind of morning following a hectic holiday weekend. This is far from being one of his most popular works but anyone who makes the effort its a very full and fulfilling listen.
