Very few cities in the US have a more storied and varied musical history than Austin, Texas (maybe Athens, Georgia or maybe Seattle). Consequently, I am getting on plane in a couple hours to fly to this very city for a wedding. So to pump up myself (and hopefully yourself) this weekend’s playlist will be comprised of bands or artists that are from Austin or made a name for themselves in the city.
Stevie Ray Vaughan – Cold Shot
Butthole Surfers – Shame of Life
….And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead – Isis Unveiled
The Black Angels – Young Men Dead
Explosions in the Sky – Trembling Hands
Fastball – The Way
Ghostland Observatory – Sad Sad City

White Denim – Drug
Yesterday, I was able to spend four hours in beautiful Sioux City, IA while my wonderful fiancee took her “Please Allow Me To Be A Pharmacist Test.” I told a friend where I was traveling to and he said (I’m assuming sarcastically), “Sewer City. Nice.” Needless to say, my expectations were not all that high, but I ended up having a very nice time even though I, as a resident of the Big City, should have been spending my time shunning the good people of Siouxland.
So, in dedication to Sioux City, this weekend’s playlist will consist of songs that I shouldn’t like but secretly do. Don’t you judge me.
Lady Gaga – Beautiful Dirty Rich
Keane – The Last Time
Hall and Oates – Kiss On My List
Beyonce – Single Ladies
Rick Astley – Together Forever
Sade – Smooth Operator
Billy Joel – Scenes From An Italian Restaurant
Mike Jones – Back Then
Gucci Mane – Normal
Til Tuesday – Voices Carry
